Pray where you are
No musolla close enough, and the waktu is running out? Pick where you are. We'll tell you who to ask, where to take wuduk, and the quiet corners people use.
Where are you? Shopping mall
Security
Some securityGuards on patrol and cameras in corridors. If you're polite, they usually help.Ask first
Ask customer service or a guard: “Is there a surau or prayer room?” Many malls have one tucked away near the car park or loading bay.Wuduk
The accessible (wheelchair) toilet is best: sink inside, door locks, nobody waiting. Wipe the sink and floor dry when you're done.Where to pray
- A fire-escape stair landing between floors. Usually clean and empty. Stand clear of the door and the way down.
- A corner of a car park level, by the lift lobby but away from cars.
- A rooftop garden or the quiet end of an upper corridor.
Avoid
- Shop fronts, escalators and lift doors.
- Nursing rooms and fitting rooms: other people need them.
- Propping open fire doors.
Anywhere you pray
- Pick a clean, dry spot. Lay a sejadah, or a clean cloth or jacket.
- Face the kiblat. Tap the compass.
- Keep doors, walkways and fire exits clear.
- On private property, ask security. Most say yes, and some point you to a better spot.
- Wipe up after wuduk so nobody slips. Leave it cleaner than you found it.
Your pocket kit
Keep these in your bag and you can pray almost anywhere.
- Travel sejadah
- Small towel
- Telekung (for sisters)
- Pair of socks
- Plastic bag for wet things
Found a good spot? Share it so the next person doesn't have to search. These are tips from people who pray on the go, not rulings. When unsure about a fiqh question, ask an asatizah.
